Though I don't proactively share this, since you have touched on it a few times I will reply to your desire to express thanks.Īs I grow older I realize in a far deeper way how gracious and kind God has been to me through Christ. Sorry I didn't see your post before I posted mine. Let me know if you installed Avast and if so, how it went. Beyond that, I use Google Backup and Sync for all of my data files so I have a copy in the cloud.

On my main Windows 10 computer I periodically create a system image. See here for Windows 7 backup information. My Windows 7 computers are for testing purposes and available to be corrupted beyond repair during the testing processes. If you are asking what program I use for backing up my Windows 7 system and files, I don't really do that. In light of everything I would say reinstall Avast, it should be fine. There were widespread issues having nothing to do with Avast itself, it was just that Avast contributed to some issues in a relatively minor way given what we needed to do to bring the computer back to health.

As antivirus programs go, Avast is not alone in this and there are certain other antivirus programs that are far more problematic, in my opinion. It is very common for programs in general, and specifically antivirus software, to cause issues or conflicts. Please be sure to copy and paste any requested log information unless you are asked to attach it. Things I would like to see in your next reply.

Note: There is no need to paste the information, FRST will handle that for youĪV: Microsoft Security Essentials (Disabled - Up to date).Highlight the below information then hit the Ctrl + C keys at the same time.Right click on the FRST icon and select Run as administrator. We are going to delete the Security Essentials entries that might be triggering the update, enable Windows Defender and check to make sure it is working properly. Rather, you have Windows Defender which is installed but currently disabled. As a result updates are being attempted but the program is not really installed. There are remnants of Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer.
